First Bank & Trust

Paris, Illinois

This adaptive reuse project was very complex, as space limitations forced the bank to occupy the first level and basement of the existing building while Garmong Construction constructed an entire story over them. To address these concerns, the renovation was accomplished using light gauge steel studs in lieu of heavy steel erection. Since the building is located directly on the Courthouse Square, the architecture needed to relate to the historic courthouse. At the same time, the bank wanted the building to be inviting to their younger customers while not deterring its base of older clients. To accomplish this, the design utilized traditional exterior brick materials complimented by large storefront windows and cast stone detailing. Inside, wood materials were used in the main lobby for traditional appeal, but with modern stain colors and custom glass inserts for modern appeal.

The facility houses a customer lobby and teller functions; new accounts/deposit functions, mortgage, consumer and commercial loan departments; accounting; IT operations; and complete administration services. A six-lane drive-thru banking facility is also included on site. The banking facility accommodates 60+ employees with an additional 10-years of potential expansion planned internally.
